Plan for Installation of Dome By Workhouse Dock |

Structure would serve as flexible space for exhibitions and events
June 19, 2026 A new temporary pavilion is being proposed for Bradbury Yard in Brentford as part of the ongoing Brentford Waterside regeneration, with developers submitting a planning application for a four-year installation beside Workhouse Dock. The application, P/2026/1574, has been lodged by Ballymore and covers the construction of a prefabricated geodesic dome designed to host community, cultural and public events. The structure would sit within the wider Brentford Waterside masterplan area, which received outline consent in 2015 for a major mixed-use redevelopment south of Brentford High Street. According to the submission, the pavilion would act as a flexible space for exhibitions, workshops, yoga sessions, talks and other public activities linked to The Brentford Project. It would be in place from this month until June 2030 and is designed to be fully removable without leaving a permanent impact on the site. The dome would be eight metres in diameter, built from a lightweight timber frame clad in western red cedar and UV-coated polycarbonate panels. It would sit directly on the existing hard landscaping at Bradbury Yard, adjacent to Workhouse Dock, and would not require permanent foundations. The design includes insulated timber flooring, LED lighting, openable roof and perimeter windows for ventilation, and a small power distribution panel connected to an existing 16-amp supply. Access to the pavilion would be step-free, and the surrounding area benefits from existing CCTV and 24-hour security associated with the Brentford Waterside development. Waste from events would be minimal and removed after each use, while visitor toilets would be provided at the nearby Sales Gallery on Brentford High Street.
Ballymore argues that the pavilion would support the regeneration aims of the Brentford Waterside masterplan by activating the waterfront, strengthening links between the High Street and the canal, and providing a high-quality public space for community use. It states that the proposal aligns with Hounslow’s Local Plan policies on town centre improvements, urban design and public realm enhancement. The application also notes that the approach has been discussed with Hounslow planning officers and that a Reasonable Exemption Fire Statement has been submitted in line with London Plan requirements. There will be an opportunity to learn more about the proposal at The Brentford Project stall at Saturday's (20 June) Canal Festival.
