Public art part of Ballymore's vision for The Brentford Project
June 13, 2025 It was a case of ‘Here Comes the Mirror Man’ in Brentford this Thursday (12 June) with the unveiling of new public art in the Workhouse Dock area. The statue of a man bending over to look at himself in a large mirror was also joined by one of a woman in Victorian dress who is already performing an additional function of providing extra seating. Both pieces are by Colin Spofforth. The big reveal was carried out by Deputy Council Leader, Cllr Tom Bruce who was introduced by John Mulryn, from Ballymore, the developer of The Brentford Project. Mr Mulryn was effusive in his praise for Hounslow Council saying, ”There are opportunities like this all around London, all around the UK, which will remain vacant, will remain empty and will simply not happen because you do not have councils, boroughs and leaders who are willing to take risk willing to support people like ourselves and willing to allow these kind of things to happen these opportunities are everywhere and they don't happen. This is an example of something that has happened through a true partnership between Hounslow Council and ourselves and the determination the bravery and the unbelievable support we continuously get.” Both Mr Mulryn and Cllr Bruce were anxious to stress that they believe The Brentford Project was not just for the people who would come to live there, but also for those who already resided in the area.
Cllr Bruce said, “I would like to say a huge thank you to Ballymore for all that you're doing in this area and for Brentford and for Hounslow more widely showing not just houses and homes can be created but a place can be created that we are incredibly proud of all that's happening here in in the
heart of Brentford.”
