Some relief could be on the way for the residents of York Road following yet another arson incident in the vicinity.

On the 15th September at around 3:45am residents were woken up by a car alight in Brook Lane North, the third such incident in five months. The burning car set fire to other vehicles, including one of a York Road resident. The cars were parked along the side of the derelict New England Bar and Restaurant.

The derelict pub which has been boarded up for four years with the owners making revenue from advertising hoardings. The site has become an attraction for graffiti artists, vandals and fly-tippers. At least one attempt has been made by arsonists to burn the site down

Following complaints from residents the steering panel of the Brentford ward Safer Neighbourhood agreed that York Road would be one of the priority areas for the next three months with involvement from other groups - such as community payback - being on board to help improve the situation. CCTV will be a part of this.

Local Councillor Matt Harmer has been told that the hoardings at the site should be down in a couple of weeks. They are there illegally and the owner has been accused of milking the planning system for every possible delay.
