Hounslow Symphony Orchestra performing at St. Mary’s, Osterley
October 9, 2026 Hounslow Symphony Orchestra will bring one of classical music’s most atmospheric works to St Mary’s Church in Osterley this autumn, performing Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade in a candlelit setting that offers a different kind of concert experience. The event takes place on Saturday 14 November, with doors opening at 6.30pm and the performance beginning at 7pm. A bar will be available throughout the evening. Scheherazade is inspired by the storyteller of One Thousand and One Nights, and the music moves through four contrasting scenes, from the surge of The Sea and Sinbad’s Ship to the lively Festival at Baghdad. Performed in the warm glow of hundreds of candles, the piece takes on a more intimate and atmospheric character than in a traditional concert hall. The programme opens with Glinka’s Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture, followed by Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major, with HSO flautist Nanako Nakamura as soloist. Scheherazade, Op. 35, forms the second half of the evening. The concert will be held at St Mary’s Church, Osterley Road, Isleworth TW7 4PW. Tickets can be bought on the door or in advance from the orchestra’s website. HSO says it aims to be the friendliest orchestra in London. It is an amateur orchestra of around 55 players which plays three concerts each season, usually at St Mary’s Church and St Paul’s Church, 56 Grove Park Road, Chiswick. It concentrates on the standard classical and romantic repertoire and from time to time perform contemporary works.
