Residents told to close windows with 60 tonnes of material alight
June 2, 2026 Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to a major blaze at a waste facility on Transport Avenue in Brentford on Saturday (30 May) afternoon, after around 60 tonnes of household waste caught fire. The London Fire Brigade received the first call at 15.43, sending crews from Heston, Chiswick, Southall and surrounding stations. Firefighters brought the incident under control by 18.04, but teams remained on site into the evening to damp down the large pile of waste and extinguish remaining hotspots. Thick smoke from the fire prompted advice for people living or working nearby to keep windows and doors closed where possible. No injuries have been reported. The cause of the blaze has not yet been confirmed, though the recent hot weather is believed to have been a contributing factor. Previous fires at the same facility during warm spells have been linked to incorrectly disposed-of batteries igniting within waste piles, a recurring risk in recycling and waste-processing sites.
