Hounslow Council have decided to introduce a range of new charges in car parks across the borough including those at Isleworth Leisure Centre and Redlees Park

A statutory consultation was undertaken in 2017 in which resulted in a significant number of objections to proposed changes. These included objections from Fusion Leisure who run leisure facilities on behalf of the council. Theysaid that charges would discourage people from visiting and their introduction would be outside the terms of their lease.

As a result amendments were made to the original proposals to allow an initial free three hours parking at Isleworth Leisure Centre car park with a maximum allowed time of four hours. A charge of £3 would be made for parking for more than three hours but less than four. It was felt that this would discourage commuter parking but still be sufficient for users of the facilities.

At Redlees Park there were strong objections from user of the artist studio and the bowls club in the park who said all day parking restrictions would make their operations unviable as they need parking access to transport materials and equipment. It has been proposed that there will be a dispensation scheme for artist and bowls club members that will be subject to an administration charge. Outside this scheme cars would be allowed to park for a maximum of 4 hours starting at 50p for the first hour up to £3 for four.

Similar schemes are already in operation at Boston Manor Park and Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre and the council say that this has not had an impact on the number of users accessing these sites.

The cost of implementing the new charges is estimated to be £100,000 which will be paid for out of the parking reserve fund. Revenue from parking charges is expect to cover ongoing running costs.
