A local cancer support charity is marking its 25th anniversary with a new public-facing name designed to make its purpose instantly clear to anyone seeking help. The Mulberry Centre, based at West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth, will now present itself publicly as Mulberry Cancer Support, reflecting its mission to provide free emotional, practical and wellbeing support to people affected by cancer.

The charity has been a lifeline for local communities since opening its doors in 2001. Over the past quarter century it has supported thousands of patients, carers, family members and friends navigating the impact of a cancer diagnosis. Demand for its services continues to grow. In the last year alone, 1,482 people accessed support and the charity delivered 9,776 attendances across counselling, complementary therapies, wellbeing classes, support groups and information services.

The decision to adopt Mulberry Cancer Support as its outward-facing name follows feedback that many people were unaware of the breadth of help available or did not immediately recognise the charity’s purpose from its original name. The organisation hopes the clearer identity will ensure that anyone affected by cancer can quickly understand what it offers and feel confident reaching out.

Raj Athwal, Chief Executive of The Mulberry Centre, said the change is about clarity rather than reinvention. “For 25 years we have been supporting people affected by cancer across our local communities. Last year alone, 872 people newly registered with the charity, demonstrating the ongoing demand for free emotional, practical and wellbeing support for those affected by cancer. As we look to the future, we want to ensure that anyone who comes across our charity can immediately understand who we are and the support we provide. While our public-facing name is changing, our mission remains exactly the same, ensuring that no one faces cancer alone.”

The charity’s legal name will remain The Mulberry Centre and its services will continue unchanged. The new identity forms part of a wider anniversary year that also looks ahead to rising need. With cancer treatment facilities at West Middlesex University Hospital expanding and diagnoses increasing nationally, the charity expects demand for support to grow further. Its focus now is on ensuring that local people can continue to access free, high-quality help at the point they need it most.

Mulberry Cancer Support’s anniversary year will highlight the stories of those it has helped, the volunteers who sustain its work and the community partnerships that have shaped its development over two decades. The charity says the new name is a step towards reaching even more people who may not yet know that free, specialist support is available on their doorstep.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.
