Amelia Lucy Wood and Peter Smith present abstract fine art and ceramics
October 2, 2026 Redlees Gallery in Isleworth will host a three-day exhibition of ceramics and abstract fine art this month, as local artists Amelia Lucy Wood and Peter Smith present a new collection of work. The show runs 16–18 October, with a private view on Friday 16 October from 6pm to 9pm, where welcome drinks will be served. Around 50 pieces will be displayed across the gallery, ranging from large sculptural stoneware vessels and naked raku forms to expressive abstract paintings. The exhibition brings together two artists whose practices, though distinct, share an interest in emotion, form and the interplay between material and meaning. Amelia Lucy Wood’s work explores “emotion, movement, colour and the ever-changing relationship between the inner and outer world,” drawing heavily on themes of urban decay, neglect and imperfection. Her layered, expressive paintings invite viewers to find their own interpretations within shifting shapes and textures. Her latest body of work is influenced by the transitional qualities of light and shadow created by windows and blinds — an idea she has been developing throughout the year. Wood, an award-winning international abstract artist, works in mixed media on wood, card, canvas and recycled packaging, combining strong colour and composition with an environmentally conscious approach.
Born and raised in Feltham, she continues to live locally and paints from her studio at Redlees Studios. Speaking about her process, she said: “Most of my paintings are created without reference… abstract ‘ghost-like’ forms of objects and sounds… manifestations of my mood and the music that surrounds me as I paint.” She adds: “I love to push boundaries, break rules and have fun.” Ceramic artist Peter Smith will exhibit a series of stoneware and raku vessels, many of which begin on the potter’s wheel before being altered, carved or reshaped. His work is driven by an interest in how surfaces intersect and how light moves across a form, using a restrained palette to emphasise structure and tactility. Peter describes his practice simply: “My art explores human feelings through the tactile qualities of ceramic form.” Each vessel aims to evoke an emotional response, often drawing on proportions inspired by the golden section. His fascination with engineered forms and human figures is reflected in the sculptural nature of his pieces. A long-time Hounslow resident, Peter discovered pottery at sixth form and has sustained his practice alongside a 30-year NHS career. He has worked from Redlees Studios for 15 years and is an associate member of the Craft Potters Association. Both artists have exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, including shows in London, Cambridge, Oxford, New York and the Canary Islands. Their joint exhibition at Redlees Gallery offers visitors the chance to explore two complementary approaches to material, form and expression. The exhibition continues Saturday and Sunday, 17–18 October, from 11am to 5pm at Redlees Gallery, Redlees Studios, Worton Road, TW7 6DW.
