A community celebration is taking place in Thornbury Park on Saturday 13 June, marking what will be Sir Paul McCartney’s 84th birthday with a special outdoor screening of the classic 1964 Beatles film A Hard Day’s Night.

The free event has a particularly local connection, as parts of the film were originally shot in Thornbury Park — making it a rare chance to watch the Beatles on screen in the very place captured in the movie.

The Beatles’ first feature film included scenes shot in what was then called Great West Road Park. The park’s pathways and railings appeared briefly in the film’s opening chase sequence

The evening begins at 6pm with live music from Paul Eaton and Friends, who will perform the entire *A Hard Day’s Night* album in the run-up to the film screening at 7.30pm. The programme forms part of the “Films on the Green” series organised by the Friends of Thornbury Park.

Alongside the music, visitors can enjoy a range of Beatles-themed activities, as well as BBQ food, desserts and refreshments available on site. Local vendors including Mean Mister Mustard and the Octopuses Garden will be serving food, or visitors are welcome to bring their own picnics.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating or rugs and settle in for a relaxed summer evening. While the event is free to attend, organisers ask people to book a ticket via Eventbrite to help manage numbers.

The evening will run from 6pm to 9pm, offering a perfect opportunity to celebrate one of Britain’s most enduring musical legends in a setting steeped in Beatles history.
