Art On Your Doorstop will display reproductions of 25 masterpieces
August 28, 2026 Brentford’s streets will become an open-air gallery as Art On Your Doorstep, a major new partnership with the National Gallery, launches alongside this year’s Creative Mile art trail. From Friday 4 September, residents and visitors will be able to encounter life-size reproductions of 25 masterpieces from the National Gallery’s collection including works from Van Gogh, Turner and Degas, installed across the town and free for everyone to enjoy. The outdoor exhibition will remain on display until 14 February 2027. The project brings some of the nation’s most treasured paintings into everyday public spaces, each reproduction presented in fine detail and at full scale, complete with its frame. The idea is to allow people to get closer to a brushstroke than most gallery visits ever permit, weaving art into the fabric of daily life in classic Creative Mile style. Brentford is one of just twelve towns across the UK selected to host the touring exhibition, and the only one launching it in tandem with a grassroots arts festival. This year’s Creative Mile theme of love has shaped the Brentford installation, with artworks positioned to reflect the town’s people, landmarks and history. A programme of walks, talks and events will run throughout the six-month display, encouraging residents to explore the works and the stories behind them. Mark Pearce, Event and Creative Director of Creative Mile, said the project reflects the community’s enthusiasm for bringing art into public spaces. “We are looking forward to seeing the reproductions of some of the gallery’s famous art collection on display in Brentford. This project has happened because of the efforts and support of the people of Brentford. I hope the artworks bring a smile to people’s faces,” he said. The launch coincides with the Creative Mile weekend, now a fixture of Brentford’s annual calendar. This year’s trail features 120 artists and makers exhibiting in 30 venues across the town, including studios, historic buildings and spaces not usually open to the public. The event is free to attend and continues to grow in scale and ambition each year. Founded in 2021, Creative Mile has become central to Brentford’s identity as an arts destination. The trail encourages residents and visitors to explore the town’s creative offer, while giving artists and makers a platform to share their work with a large and diverse audience.
