New Art Studios to Open in Former SEGA Building
Creative Mile in partnership which is using space on a 'meanwhile' basis

Brentford’s fast-changing Great West Corridor is set for a significant cultural boost this autumn, with new affordable art studios opening on the ground floor of the former SEGA Building.
The studios, developed through a partnership between The Art House in Wakefield and Brentford’s own Creative Mile, will occupy part of 27 Great West Road on a meanwhile basis for at least twelve months. Areli, the developer behind Brentford Works, has made the space available while the long-term redevelopment progresses. A range of studios for rent plus space for exhibitions, art classes and events… will be launching in September with tours offered during the Creative Mile Art Trail weekend.
The Art House, founded in 1994 and now an Arts Council England NPO, brings three decades of experience in accessible artist development. “We believe in the transformative power of art and creativity at the heart of the community,” said Co-Executive Director Lucy Juniper. “That’s why we are so excited to be partnering with Creative Mile on this project.”
Creative Mile Director Mark Pearce echoed the sentiment, describing the studios as “a great opportunity… to expand its scope beyond an annual weekend festival,” with a programme of events planned throughout the year.
The studios will be open for public tours during the Creative Mile Art Trail on 5–6 September, offering residents a first look at how the former SEGA Building is being reimagined for creative and community use—even as its long-term future continues to be shaped by one of West London’s most closely watched planning applications.
Areli Developments and Tikehau Capital secured approval for updated plans for Brentford Works in June. This will become a ambitious mixed-use neighbourhood of 856 flats, commercial units and creative spaces arranged across five tower blocks rising between 15 and 19 storeys. The scheme forms part of the Great West Corridor Opportunity Area and sits between Brentford Community Stadium and Gunnersbury Park, with land reserved for a future Lionel Road station on the proposed West London Orbital Line. The permission given to the new studios indicates that construction of the scheme is unlikely to begin for at least a year.
