The Mercedes Benz group have sold their 35,000 sq ft bodyshop complex in Brentford for an undisclosed sum.

According to a report in Automotive Management Online, the German car company has sold the site to Fastlane Paint and Body Group. This company already handles all of Mercedes’s approved paint and body related work across its London dealerships.

The 55 staff who work at the site will be transferred over to Fastlane and as part of the agreement the bodyshop will be relocated to a site nearer Heathrow.

Perry Robb, consultant at Fastlane, was quoted in Automotive Management Online as saying, “Mercedes-Benz UK were impressed with how Fastlane does business and when Daimler AG in Germany decided it wanted to sell the retail group’s bodyshop site at Brentford, it approached us as a potential buyer.

“Fastlane has built up a reputation for being a business that is turned to when a problem job comes in. It has also built up expertise as a plug-in vehicle repair specialist after heavily investing in this area.

“This was of particular interest to Mercedes-Benz who are moving in that direction with future product.”

He added that the relocation plan was still being negotiated and expected to be completed by the first quarter of next year.

Mercedes Benz are planning on rebuilding their dealership on the Great West Road. The five storey building, the top floors of which are visible from the elevated section of the M4 and accessed from Clayponds Avenue will be replaced with a more modern building similar to the Audi site next door.
