Details of Latest Proposals for Heidelberg Site Revealed

Fairview New Homes, the company which is developing the former Heidelberg site in Brentford, has released revised proposals for the development of the site.
These are changed from the initial designs published in November and they are now inviting members of the public to give feedback on the plans.
The number of flats in the new scheme has been reduced as well as a reduction in the height and the massing has been moved away from Brentford High Street. The earlier designs contained 350 housing units and reached up to ten storeys.
They are now proposing 335 housing units in the development 39% of which will be 1 bedroom, 41% 2 bedroom, 18% 3 bedroom and 2% 4 bedroom. There will be an additional 1,700 sqm for other uses in the development and 30 car parking spaces will be provided in the undercroft.
Three storey mews houses will be positioned on the side of the development next to the St Paul’s Conservation area with the development rising in height towards the multi-storey car park where three blocks will progressively rise in height to 8 storeys.

The development would also allow a widening of the pavement on Brentford High Street with drawings showing new tree planting and an on-pavement cycle lane going past the site
Indicative images released as part of the consultation show a boardwalk style look to the section of the Thames Path by the development and people sitting on deck chairs and sunbathing by the river. Fairview says it plans to integrate the Thames Path with the rest of the site with a linkage to Ballymore’s Brentford Project.

Fairview says it specialises in complex sites in London that are in need of regeneration and delivers relatively low cost homes for first time buyers and people looking to downsize. It promises management of a high standard combined with affordable service charges.

A planning application is likely to be submitted this Spring with the intention to start work towards the end of this year and complete the project in Summer 2026.
An exhibition of the proposals was scheduled to be held in Brentford Free Church on Wednesday 23 February. We are sorry we were unable to give our readers advance notice of this but we were not informed by Fairview that it was taking place.
