Last year saw the return of the Brentford Canal Festival after many, many years.

It is estimated that over 3000 people came along, and by all accounts, it was a free fun packed day that was deemed a great success.

The festival is steered by Brentford Voice and run by a very small number of volunteers from the local community.

Martin Case of Brentford Voice says, “The event was one which was much welcomed, particularly so on the back of Covid 19 and the restrictions that brought for large local gatherings. However, this year as we’re all aware brings with it different issues, so our aim is recreate a free event again to hopefully provide all with some cheer and joy.

“The Canal Festival was created to celebrate our waterways and recognise the importance of the waterways in establishing Brentford. But more importantly it was an opportunity to bring our community together for a day and to showcase Brentford and all it has to offer including live music and entertainment, arts and crafts, water sport activities and food & drink.”

As last year was the inaugural Canal Festival, Brentford Voice is very keen to know your thoughts as to what went well, what didn’t, and what you’d like to see it starts to plan for this year’s Canal Festival. This year's event will be on Saturday 24 June from midday until 6pm.

Martin adds, “As you can imagine an event like this doesn’t happen overnight. We started planning in December and then the hard work really started in January giving the planning team a 6-month window to get everything signed, sealed and delivered.

“As such we’d like to reach out to the Brentford Community for your help as we’d like to make this year’s festival bigger and better, however to do this we will need more support and help. “

Over the next few months, the organisers will expand upon the specific roles required, and publish dates for all future planning meetings that take place once a month; usually at a local hostelry.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
