An investigation has been opened following the suspicious death of a man at the West Middlesex Hospital.

Police were called in the early hours of Wednesday morning after reports that a 39 year-old man and a 21-year-old woman had arrived at the hospital with symptoms which had raised the suspicions of staff. The man died not long after reaching the hospital. He has been named as Lakhvinder Cheema of Princes Road, Feltham. He worked as a cleaner. The woman, Gurjeeta Kaur remains in a serious but stable condition with her family at her bedside

They had just eaten a meal together before being taken ill.

The initial post mortem was inconclusive and police await the results of further toxicology reports. Health Protection Agency officials, brought in by police, have searched Mr Cheema's semi-detached house for potentially dangerous substances.

Lakhvir Kaur Singh, 39, of Marlborough Road, Southall, has appeared at Ealing Magistrates Court in West London on charges of murder and attempted murder. Speaking in court through a Punjabi interpreter, Singh confirmed her name and address and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on May 8. A 54 year old man has also been arrested in connection with the investigation.
