It’s a busy month for local cancer survivor Ed Mayne. He’s not only campaigning to win a seat on Hounslow Council, he’s also hoping to raise over £2000 for Macmillan Cancer Support by running the London Marathon.
Ed, 25, was diagnosed with tongue cancer two years ago. He was cured within a month of diagnosis following a major operation that involved removing a quarter of his tongue and replacing it with tissue from his wrist.
Ed, who is standing as a Labour candidate in Isleworth, said, “Taking part in the London Marathon to raise money for Macmillan is something I’ve wanted to do ever since I left hospital. I received world class treatment from the Charing Cross Hospital NHS team which included a Macmillan nurse. Her care, compassion and expertise made so much difference.
"I hope to raise as much money as possible to help Macmillan do the great work they do and say thank you for all the support they gave me and my family.”
The London Marathon takes place on 25 April, less than two weeks before the local elections. But Ed says he has received support from across the political spectrum, even at this time of intense political activity locally and nationally.
Ed said, “Macmillan provides an excellent service to anyone who is living with the burdens of cancer. I think everyone can appreciate that.”
