Brentford lost 3-2 in controversial fashion on Saturday at the Galpharm.

The Bees were absolutely outstanding in the first half hour, dominating midfield and taking the game to their much fancied opponents.

They took the lead through Gary Alexander from the penalty spot after Marcus Bean had been needlessly fouled by Peter Clarke and were soon 2-0 up when Alexander netted again after great work down the right from Niall McGinn

Seconds later it could have been 3-0 after a sublime chipped pass from Jonathan Douglas fell to Bean who charged through on goal but then fluffed his lines with only Ian Bennett to beat.

However Huddersfield started to rally slightly and reduced arrears with a goal that shouldn't have counted when plump thug Alan Lee bundled keeper Richard Lee - and then the ball - into the back of the net. His arm was clearly across Lee's throat and Uwe Rosler was visibly angered that the goal was allowed to stand.

With Brentford shaken, Huddersfield equalised on the stroke of half time. A misunderstanding between Bidwell and Saunders allowed space for a cross and Jamie McCombe steered a well placed header into the top corner.

The Bees, however, only had themselves to blame for Huddersfields second half winner - a punt up field was misjudged in the air by Leon Legge before (surprise surprise) Jordan Rhodes danced his way easily past Marcel Eger and finished in the bottom corner.

Brentford did have chances to level - Myles Weston missed two reasonable chances, one of which he created himself with a fantastic run from deep.

Despite the bitter manner of the defeat it was a pretty encouraging display from Uwe's men against one of the division's top teams. Unfortunately referee Webster changed the game through one terrible decision.

Rosler commented after the game 'I think the whole team played well, we looked very, very good but in the end football is a points oriented game and we do not have enough points on the table.'

Bees - Lee, Bennett, Eger, Legge, Bidwell, Saunders (Forrester), Bean (Weston), Douglas, Dave, McGinn (Donaldson), Alexander

Unused Bees - Moore, Dean
