The borough officially came into being on 1 April 1965 along with 31 others across London. It comprised the area of the former Brentford and Chiswick Urban District, Feltham Urban District and the Heston and Isleworth Urban District (which held borough status as did Brentford and Chiswick) of Middlesex.

To mark the anniversary Hounslow will take a look back at how the borough has changed over the years, covering everything from the physical environment to lifestyles in general. The councill will be looking at the development of the local town centres, housing and transport, as well as our changing tastes in fashion, music and food.

Throughout the year, LBH will be delving into the archives to remember significant milestones and events; be dusting off our old films and photographs and showing them here on the councilwebsite. There will be special events and exhibitions and running activities and projects in local schools.

Hounslow is asking everyone who has lived in the borough for a long time to tell them about their memories and experiences of living in Hounslow, or share any photos of the borough over the past 50 years.

If you or a family member has lived in the borough since 1965, LBH would love to hear your recollections or see your photos, and if you haven’t quite reached 50 years as a resident but have some stories to tell about Hounslow in the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s, still get in contact. Email 50@hounslow.gov.uk.
