Friends of Watermans Park Holding Community Gardening Day |

Call made for volunteers to come along this weekend November 14, 2025 Watermans Park in Brentford is offering the perfect opportunity to dig in and make a difference this weekend. On Saturday, 15 November, local residents are invited to join a volunteer gardening session hosted by the Friends of Watermans Park—a community group dedicated to preserving and enhancing this riverside green space. Volunteers are asked to meet at 2pm at the western end of the park, where they’ll be welcomed by regular organisers Angie, Kal and Philip. The afternoon will involve light gardening tasks such as cutting back overgrowth and general tidying to help keep the park looking its best through the winter months. Participants are encouraged to bring their own secateurs if they have them, but tools will also be available to borrow. Watermans Park, which runs along the Thames just east of Brentford town centre, is a popular spot for walkers, cyclists and families. With its river views and open lawns, it offers a peaceful retreat from the bustle of the High Street—but like all public spaces, it relies on regular care to stay welcoming and safe. The Friends of Watermans Park was formed in 2015 in response to local concerns about the park’s condition and the impact of nearby development. Since then, the group has worked closely with Hounslow Council and local stakeholders to improve the park’s facilities, protect its biodiversity, and encourage community use. Their efforts have included planting days, litter picks, and campaigns to preserve green space amid ongoing regeneration in the area. Saturday’s gardening session is part of the group’s ongoing commitment to community-led stewardship. One volunteer, “It’s a great spot with fresh air and river views but the Park needs keeping in trim. There’s a bit of cutting back to do as well as general tidying up.” To find out more about the Friends of Watermans Park and how you can get involved, visit friendsofwatermanspark.org.
