Families looking for activities over the school holidays will be able to enjoy six weeks of water-themed fun as the London Museum of Water & Steam opens its doors every day for a special summer programme.

Running from 21 July to 2 September, the museum's Summer of Water programme combines hands-on activities, creative workshops and interactive experiences inspired by the resource that gave the historic site its original purpose.

Based at the former Kew Bridge Waterworks, the museum occupies the Victorian pumping station where giant steam engines once supplied millions of gallons of clean water to homes across the capital. This summer's activities aim to help visitors discover both the science and history of London's water supply while enjoying a range of family-friendly attractions.

Alongside the museum's collection of historic steam engines, visitors will be able to take part in themed activities throughout the school holidays. A special Summer Scavenger Hunt, available for £3.50 while stocks last, will encourage children to explore the site, while a changing programme of workshops and activities will take place across the six-week event.

The museum is also highlighting improvements to its outdoor spaces. Its popular Play Garden, which reopened earlier this year, has been refreshed with new toys and activities for younger visitors, while a newly created shaded seating area known as the Economiser has opened beside the Splash Zone, providing families with a place to relax during warmer weather.

All Summer of Water activities are included with general admission unless otherwise stated.

The museum's Waterworks Gallery tells the story of how Victorian engineers transformed London's public water supply, helping to combat deadly waterborne diseases and laying the foundations for the modern city.

Full details of activities and advance ticket bookings are available on the museum's website.
