The Back the Bees campaign to raise £1m to enable the purchase of Brentford FC by its supporters has reached the £700,000 mark with a month-and-a-half to go before supporters' trust Bees United's option to buy the Club expires.

The Trust has confirmed that £300,000 is now needed to meet the £1m target. Reaching the target will help the Trust refinance the Club, enabling Bees United to exercise its option to buy the majority shareholding in Brentford FC from Ron Noades' Altonwood Holdings.
Failure to do so by 31 September could see the Club sold on the open market, with a number of property developers already expressing an interest in the Club and its Griffin Park ground.

Bees United is now asking fans of other clubs and anyone who supports the proposition of supporter-owned clubs to get behind the campaign, which can easily be achieved by texting 'Bees' to 83338 to make a £1.50 donation to the cause.

On the £700,000 raised and the campaign ahead, a Back the Bees spokesman said, "Raising pledges and donations of £700,000 is a major landmark in our campaign, but we still have a long way to go. We've had a great response to the urgency of our appeal from both Brentford supporters and fans of other clubs, who recognise the long-term benefits of football clubs being majority owned by their supporters. We have a month-and-a-half left in this campaign, and getting that remaining £300,000 is vital".
