Police closed Great West Road in Brentford at 2.30pm on Monday afternoon when emergency services cut the roof off the Vauxhall Zafira in a two hour rescue operation.

A paramedic on her way to a 999 call has been taken to hospital with neck injuries after colliding with a van.

A 45 year old man was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed the original call from a 73-year-old man was taken by another paramedic and the pensioner was taken to West Middlesex Hospital.

Two ambulance crews, two duty officers and a doctor were sent to the scene between Ealing Road and Chiswick roundabout.

A police spokesman confirmed the road reopened at 4.30pm and said the van driver had been taken to West Middlesex Hospital but his condition had not yet been assessed.
