Travellers Occupy Brent Lea Recreation Ground |

Groups of caravans have been regular visitors to the site
May 16, 2025 A group of travellers has taken up residence on the Brent Lea Recreation ground. There have been at least five caravans observed and they are believed to have started arriving on Sunday night (11 May). Hounslow Council’s neighbourhood enforcement team issued a Section 77 notice on Monday which required the group to leave within 24 hours. The expiry of this deadline will allow legal proceedings to begin for their removal. Continued defiance of legal notices could lead to the confiscation of vehicles by bailiffs, but it can take up to a week to get a court hearing to get the necessary documentation. Theoretically the police could request the encampment to leave but they will tend not to do so unless there are specific aggravating factors relating to its presence. Travellers have been regular visitors to this park over the years with the most recent reported encampment taking place in August 2023. A group of four caravans arrived at the site and departed after being served an eviction notice. During their stay, a fire was started near a tree, necessitating the attendance of the Fire Brigade . However, the day after the departure, park users reported that there was no evidence of littering. It is not unsual for traveller groups to be in west London at this time of year as many head north for the Appleby Horse Fair which is in Cumbria and takes place in the first week of June. Hounslow Council provides 30 pitches and facilities for Travellers and Gypsies at the Hartlands Caravan Park in Heston. Residents can report illegal encampments to Hounslow Council by calling 020 8583 5555.
