RowFit Course Launched at Brentford Community Boat House
No experience needed for six-week course for children

A free six-week RowFit course has been launched at Brentford Community Boat House. It designed to open the door to rowing for those who have never tried it before.
After a busy and successful summer, the club says it is now focused on widening access and bringing more young people and residents onto the water. Over recent months, volunteers and coaches have rebuilt a full programme of activities: summer rowing courses, canal and riverside litter-picks with local volunteers, and free on-the-water sessions delivered through the London Borough of Hounslow’s Holiday Activities and Food programme. Those sessions, offered at no cost to families, helped dozens of children experience rowing for the first time.
The charity has also strengthened its volunteer base, with a growing group of local supporters helping to run sessions, maintain equipment and support community events. A highlight of the summer was seeing Brentford Gig Club enter the Great River Race — a milestone that underlined how far the organisation has come in growing participation. Adult membership is now increasing too, with new rowers joining to enjoy the river, meet neighbours and help build a stronger community.
The new RowFit course is designed to take that progress further. Offered free of charge to children with no previous rowing experience, the six-week programme focuses on land-based rowing and fitness training in a friendly, supportive environment. Young participants will learn technique, build confidence and develop fitness before progressing onto the water. Those who complete the course will also be offered a subsidised October half-term rowing camp — fully funded for families receiving benefits or needing financial support.
The charity says it is “extremely grateful” to Hadley Property Group for providing the space to run the programme, and to The Green School for Boys for supporting the project.
