Syon Children's Centre to close but Brentford will continue
Hounslow Council is running a 90 day consultation on the future of services and activities for under children under five years old and their families. In the proposed model Brentford will continue to operate full time to provide the children's centre offer and Syon will close. This model proposes to make use of libraries, leisure centres, community centres
and faith buildings to deliver services to parents of under fives in their local areas. As part of this, parents and carers are invited to share their views on our proposals by filling in questionnaires or attending focus groups, which will be held at every children’s centre. Visits to Brentford Children's Centre are Wednesday 5 August at 10am and Thursday 10 September at 10am. Visits to Syon Children's Centre are 2pm on Wednesday 26th August and 10am Thursday 15th October. Download the full list of visits (pdf). Drop-in sessions are also at the Civic Centre every week until the consultation ends on 17 October. Computers will be available to complete the online questionnaire and business support officers will be available to provide help and guidance.
Councillor Tom Bruce, Hounslow Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services said: “We’re holding the 90 day consultation so that we can use the views of parents and carers to shape the future of services and activities for under fives in our borough. “We believe that our proposals for under fives which would see children’s centres service run from leisure centres and community groups are more cost effective and more convenient for residents.” Links to the consultation document, full cabinet report and questionnaire are at Hounslow Council. The consultation closes on 17 October 2015. There is a petition to stop the closure of children's centres on change.org which currently has over 250 signatures. July 29, 2015 |
