Proposed Cycle Improvements in Brentford Consultation |
||||
Around St Paul's / Half Acre / Green Dragon Lane / Market Place / The Butts All with Deadline: 18 July
As part of the ‘Biking Borough’ programme and with help from local cyclists, the council has identified a number of small changes that could be made to our streets, which would help make cyclists’ journeys safer, quicker and comfortable. One of the schemes identified is to provide for a legal access route for cyclists from Half Acre into St Paul’s Road (a contraflow), and through the recreation ground to Grosvenor Road and Albany Road. This provides a quiet alternative to the busy High Street and allows cyclists to bypass the one-way system serving the bus terminal and Morrisons Supermarket. To view the full proposed plans, download the pdfs from the council site. To summarise – (heading west to east):

Green Dragon Lane Cycle Improvements One of the schemes identified is the need to improve the chicanes on Green Dragon lane for cyclists through the introduction of a ‘cycle bypass’. Proposed cycle route - Market Place and The Butts One of the schemes identified is to formalise the use by cyclists, the off-carriageway route between the Market Place, Lion Way and The Butts. It has been noted that this route is being used by many cyclists already as a convenient and quiet cut through between Brentford town centre and Half Acre. It is necessary to dedicate this section of the footway as a ‘cycle track’. This means that cyclists are legally able to ride on this section, with priority maintained for pedestrians. No changes will be made to the footway surface. To indicate that this is the case, we intend to mount a small shared use sign at each the entrances to this route (either on an existing lamppost or bollard).
