Efforts to restore a Post Office to the Brentford area have intensified recently with the launch of a petition.

The area is currently without a Post Office following last January’s closure of the one on the South side of the High Street to clear land for the Ballymore project.

The nearest Post Office branches are now nearly one-and-a-half miles away in Boston Manor, Isleworth and South Ealing and taking nearly half an hour’s total journey time.  Whilst a couple of High Street traders are seeking to house a Post Office there is scepticism as to the whether the Post Office management will approve either of them.

Our MP Ruth Cadbury tried very hard last year to get a Post Office for Brentford, including asking a question in the House of Commons, but without success. She is now trying again along with Steve Curran, leader of Hounslow Council.

It is felt important that the Post Office also learns directly of the community’s concerns; Brentford Voice is therefore starting a petition to demonstrate local backing, with lists for signature in local cafés, shops and pubs. This Saturday, 1st February there will be a manned table close to the entrance of Morrisons where you can record your support and on Sunday morning (weather permitting) a table in the Market Place.

The petition is also available on-line. If you are going to sign could do so by no later than Wednesday 5 February.

The words of the petition are: “Our High Street Post Office was closed 12 months ago to clear land for a major redevelopment of the Town Centre. Brentford is a diverse community undergoing rapid growth and change; it is vital key services for this community are maintained. We request restoration of a Post office as a matter of urgency.”

Brentford Post Office closed at the end of last year.
