A man from Hounslow has been found not guilty of murdering 22-year-old Brentford resident Dara Omar.

Mr Omar died after intervening in a dispute on Hanworth Road, Hounslow, last summer.

Mr Omar was attacked at around 2.20pm on 22 June near the junction with School Road. Witnesses reported that he had stepped out of the Menara Lounge, a Middle Eastern restaurant next to the Hounslow Muslim Centre, when he saw an altercation unfolding between two groups in the street. He attempted to mediate, but was stabbed during the confrontation. Emergency services treated him at the scene before he was taken to hospital, where he later died.

Police initially arrested four people as part of the murder investigation. Among them was 27-year-old Kaywan Warzier Karim, of Walnut Tree Road, Hounslow, who was charged on 25 June with murder and possession of an offensive weapon. Two others — 33-year-old Tania Hamza of Kingsley Road and 31-year-old Aziz Hama of Selbourne Avenue — were charged with violent disorder and assisting an offender. A fourth man, 35-year-old Mohammed Ali, was charged with murder and appeared separately at Willesden Magistrates’ Court.

Although the incident took place outside both the Hounslow Muslim Centre and the Menara Lounge, police confirmed there was no evidence linking either venue to the dispute. A spokesperson for the Muslim Centre said officers had asked them to close temporarily after the attack and thanked emergency responders for their swift action.

Last Thursday (23 April), Karim was found not guilty of murder but convicted of violent disorder and possession of a bladed article. He was sentenced to four years in custody. The court heard that while he was involved in the confrontation, the jury could not be sure he was responsible for the fatal wound that killed Mr Omar.

Mr Omar’s death prompted shock and grief in the local community. Friends described him as a calm and thoughtful young man who had stepped in that afternoon simply to prevent further violence.
