Damp weather fails to stop families attending
Around 3,000 people turned up to enjoy the first Brentford Waterside Festival on Saturday (27 May) despite the soggy bank holiday weather. Street entertainment, live music, boat trips and children’s activities proved a real success attracting crowds of local people into Brentford Lock over the course of the day. Organisers, British Waterways, sponsors ISIS Waterside Regeneration and St George were delighted so many people came out to support the event and see the changes to the area. Louise Fishleigh, recreation manager for British Waterways London, explained“The festival was a great success, we wanted to encourage local people to visit their local waterways and the people of Brentford were out in force on Saturday despite the terrible weather and the local closures. We really appreciate their support and hope we can organise another fantastic family day next year, hopefully with better weather” Wayland Pope, Regional Managing Director for ISIS Waterside Regeneration, said, “We were delighted to be the major sponsors of this fantastic free family event and we are looking forward to playing a major role in the transformation of Brentford’s waterside, creating places for people to live, work and, importantly, play.” May 27 2006 |
