Hounslow’s libraries are looking for volunteers to help make sure they are keeping up with cultural trends around the world.

The library team is looking for up to 10 local people to offer information and advice about new writers, topics, music and film from across the world, to help attract new users from the different communities across the borough.

Cllr Ajmer Grewal, cabinet member for leisure and public health at the council, said:

“Libraries are there for everyone to enjoy, so we want to make sure we have something on offer for everyone.

“We already work hard to make sure we’re listening to our existing users with regular consultations and feedback sessions to try to make sure we’re providing the stock that people want.

“But we also want to get more people using the service, and we want to encourage groups which may not feel libraries have anything to offer them, to get involved to help us provide a better service.”

The volunteers would meet around four times a year to give their input, and help the libraries identify new stock to reflect trends and interests.

The first meeting is expected to be held in October, and anyone interested in volunteering should contact Indra Bhadhal, Reader Development Manager on 0845 456 2885 or indra.bhadhal@laing.com.
