|Surge In Violent Crime On Local Buses|
Incidents up by 42% according to figures published by TFL
According to figures released by Transport For London (TfL) there has been a surge in violent crime on local buses with recorded incidents of attacks up by 42%.
Overall crime on buses in the London Borough of Hounslow has fallen in the reporting year so far but this is mainly due to a drop in theft and handling offences. Since April 2010 there have been 179 reports of violence against the person.
Bus-related crime data is extracted from the MPS crime reporting system using a query that searches for the word bus, bus stop etc. The figures do not include crimes that have not been reported to the police or those that the police decide not to record.
All other bus related crimes except drug offences have fallen with thefts down by 25% and sexual offences down by 40% on the previous year's figures.
We have asked Hounslow Safer Transport Team for comment on these numbers and await their response.
