Brentford battled their way to a fine 2-0 win over Southampton yesterday.

Scotty's team appeared galvanised both by recent results and the snow enforced break, and got stuck into their opponents from the off.

The home side could easily have taken a second minute lead, however, but Richard Lee pulled off a majestic save, pushing Rickie Lambert's effort over the bar.

The Bees pushed on from here, keeping the ball high up the pitch and starting to dominate the midfield battle. They took the lead when Gary Alexander's long range shot was fluffed by keeper Kelvin Davies who saw the ball loop over his body and into the net.

Brentford doubled their lead in the 28th minute when Charlie Macdonald latched onto a header and slotted the ball past Davies. Cue mass pottiness from the 1500 travelling supporters.

Lee made another smart save on the stroke of half time but The Bees looked pretty comfortable for the rest of the game and could have added to their lead as players won their individual battles all over the pitch.

Sam Saunders played well again on the left and provides an important link between the strikers and midfield. Charlie was, as ever, a pain in the arse for the opposing defenders and Toumani Diagouraga had his best game for a long while, dominating the midfield.

For those interested, Ryan Dickson was kept very quiet by Bean and Wright and rarely got the chance to overlap.

That's three great away wins on the bounce - let's hope we can bring that form back to Griffin Park for Tuesday's JPT clash with Charlton.

Bees - Lee, Woodman, Legge, Osborne, Wright, Bean (Spillane 78), Kev, Dave, Saunders, Mac (Simmo 89), Alexander (Forster 74)

Unused Bees - Hamer, Pim, Hunt, Wood
