Bees stumble to draw
Brentford 1 AFC Bournemouth 1
Fresh from three consecutive league wins and a wonderful display at St Andrews you would have thought that Brentford would have hit the ground running against Bournemouth.
As normal Brentford were predictable only in their unpredictability.
A first half display of awe inspiring and mind-numbing incompetence left Brentford hanging on at the interval.
Players fell over regularly as if hit by an invisible sniper and the ball yelled for mercy as it was walloped high and not very handsome.
Amazingly it was Brentford who went the closest when a defensive error let in MacDonald who carefully rolled the ball onto the outside of the post instead of into a gaping goal.
Bournemouth passed the ball over, through and round the Bees but finally fell into the same malaise and torpor as Brentford as the half drifted to a long-awaited close.
If anything Brentford's second half performance was even worse as the ball was thumped aimlessly to oblivion.
Bournemouth did eventually score with a neat near post header from a free kick.
And Lewis Grabban came on and performed fitfully on the wing but he at least ended the penalty hoodoo. His spotkick was awarded after a clever MacDonald turn trickled over the line off the keeper's arm.
This was the only shot on target in the whole game which saw Brentford fail to even win a corner.
This was turgid rubbish and the Bees clung on for a point.
Being charitable perhaps fatigue set in after a hard few weeks but this was comfortably the worse game I have ever had the misfortune to see.
