Around 20 individuals including members of staff from West London Mental Health Trust have signed up for the Ealing Half Marathon in order to raise awareness about the Alzheimer’s Society funded study ‘PREVENT’ that the trust is conducting as well as raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The ‘PREVENT’ study, which will start in October, will recruit individuals between the ages of 40-59 with and without a family history of dementia to determine factors that may lead to developing the condition. Eventually, this could lead to new ways of preventing the onset of dementia.

If successful, the project stands to help the thousands of Ealing residents whose lives are affected by dementia.

The marathon will start and finish in Lammas Park and the 13 mile race will go through parts of Central Ealing, Montpelier, Pitshanger, West Ealing, Hanwell and St Stephen's.

Dr Craig Ritchie an Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at West London Mental Health Trust said:

“We’re glad to be doing this for the Alzheimer’s Society. We believe that the project is an important one that could hopefully make a huge difference to thousands of lives, both locally and internationally. Hopefully, we’ll manage to raise plenty of money for the charity which will make all the blisters worthwhile.”

The team will be supported by their colleagues from West London Mental Health Trust as well as friends and family.

If you’re in the area, be sure to show your support for the team. If you would like to donate to the Alzheimer’s Society, you can do so on the team’s virgin money giving account http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/PREVENT.

The team hope to raise £10,000 for the charity
