Brentford Together have moved their workshops online, teaching sewing, cooking, bike maintenance, fitness, first aid and gardening.

Sessions are now being provided through both Zoom and Facebook Live, with tips and ideas for making the most of the time in isolation and a space to chat and meet others.

Whether you’d like to make the most of the food in your cupboards or the plants in your garden, get your bike roadworthy, sew a button back on your favourite shirt, learn basic first aid skills, or just meet others for a chat, all are welcome. Details on dates and times can be found by following the links. See you there!

Join the Facebook page or keep an eye on the website for full details of sessions. For any queries contact b.together@globalactionplan.org.uk

Workshop sessions are currently taking place weekly, with Sewing on Tuesdays, Cooking on Thursdays, Bike Maintenance on Fridays and First Aid and Fitness on Saturdays.

Cooking

Sara Ward welcomes you to Hen Corner. With supermarket shelves empty and home delivery unable to accept new customers, ensuring that we are well fed has never been as important as it is now. Be that learning new skills, foraging in the back of the cupboard, fridge and freezer or simply getting creative with the ingredients, Sara is here to help.

Bike repair and maintenance

The aim of the virtual Dr Bike sessions is to give dormant cyclists the necessary advice to repair their bicycles and to ensure that they are fit to ride safety on the road. The sessions will cover - checking your bike, how to repair punctures, adjust brakes, gears and removing rust.

Sewing

Mary from the Brentford Sewing Bee will be running free classes on basic sewing skills and creative clothing projects. These will be broadcast on Facebook Live where she will answer questions and offer tips on simple clothing repairs and sewing creations.

Fitness and First Aid

Tania Cheney is the founder of Simple First Aid, an organisation which teaches life-saving first aid skills. Simple First Aid's training is primarily focused on providing parents with first aid skills to help babies and children. Simple First Aid believes that everyone should have the opportunity to learn simple first aid life-saving skills giving them the confidence to deal with a real-life first aid emergency.

Tania is regarded as an expert speaker, and she has participated in baby shows in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Scotland to advise on first aid for babies and children. The Red Cross Movement has presented Tania with their highest award for her work with them.

Like Reading Articles Like This? Help Us Produce More

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we’d be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you’d like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT. All payments are made through a secure web site.
