St Paul's Recreation Ground is to get an update to its playground over the month of May.

Friends of St Paul's have been working with Hounslow Council to design the upgrade which will take a minimum of 4 weeks.

During this time, the playground will be closed but the rest of the Recreation Ground will remain open.

Expert play designers Wicksteed came out as the preferred bidder on the council's scoring system, which Friends were able to input into. Their design for the work came out the closest to the design brief, which was all based on the suggestions from the community led survey and from the brilliant ideas and designs from Year 6 at St Paul's Primary School.

Many of these suggestions have been included subject to budget and regulations-  so hopefully you will see some the changes you asked for happening in the playground. Unfortunately the suggestion for a swimming pool was not within budget! Funding has been provided via Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

Playground improvements

The new equipment has been a bit delayed and therefore the whole installation will happen in May.

The contractors will start works w/c 6th May and Wicksteed said that the playground will need to be closed for a minimum of 4 weeks for the works to take place.

  • There will be some new equipment, some replaced, some repaired- eg the zipwire will get put back in action.
  • There will also be some disability-inclusive equipment added such as a wide slide with handles, seats for swings and a roundabout.
  • Some equipment that is in good working order will stay like the climbing net, and all the swings.
  • Where needed there will be some resurfacing, including an astroturfed under-5 area.

There will hopefully be a big opening once completed, and also there may be a possibility of a "community help day" if time/weather permits.
