The Friends of St Paul's Recreation Ground Group are working to improve the facilities of St Paul's, and one of the aims is to create a new mural on the wall within the children's play area.

Sadly, what was once an illuminating piece of artwork has now been vandalised by graffiti to such an extent it's barely visible. What we'd like is to do something with this space, something a little more diverse to create more interest and possibly something which puts a smile on people's faces, at the same time we think it should connect with the community.

To that end we’d like to invite local interested parties: artists, schools, colleges, unknown budding Banksies, etc. to put forward proposals. At the moment we don't have funding, but if a strong design/thought is offered we'll actively pursue costs to cover expenses. It’s a big canvas so a great opportunity for artists to express themselves. It may well be if we receive enough interesting proposals we could look at changing the mural 3 or 4 times a year to keep it fresh and stimulating.

All artists are encouraged to submit proposals which address both the interests of the community and the context and history of Brentford, celebrating the cultural diversity and dynamism of the area. This is a significant opportunity to bring local visual arts into the public realm, so if you believe passionately in the importance of the community coming together to share this experience in creating an uplifting artwork then do please get in touch with Martin Case of The Friends of St Paul’s Recreation Ground group at martincase8@gmail.com
