Cllr Tom Bruce, cabinet member for education at the council, said:

“It’s heartbreaking to see the damage to the school, but we are relieved that nobody was hurt. I know the pupils, parents and staff will be devastated to see what has happened to their school.

“We are working with the school and London Diocesan Board for Schools to assess the complete extent of the damage, to see what we need to do to make sure every child can return to lessons in September

“Even before the fire was put out, we had begun looking at a range of options to cover every possible scenario, and these plans will become clearer once the scale of the damage is confirmed.

“We are, of course, working together to make sure parents have information as soon as possible, but it will take a few days to decide the best way to proceed.

“We appreciate that there will be concerns about what happens next but parents should be reassured that everyone – the school, the London Diocesan Board for Schools and the council – will do all we can to get the school up and running again in September, and back to normal as soon as possible afterwards.”
