The Osterley & Wyke Green Residents' Association (OWGRA) has started a petition against the massive Tesco/Homebase development.

The scheme has been approved by Hounslow Council but still needs to be rubber stamped by the Mayor of London and may be subject to an appeal to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.

The proposal will see 16 tower blocks built in the area around Gillette Corner.

At the time of writing over 1,000 people had signed the petition. OWGRA has set a target of 2,000 signatures including those on the paper version of the petition.

OWGRA says, “We firmly continue to believe that Hounslow’s housing aims can be achieved by developments which are more sympathetic to the area and meet Hounslow’s housing needs for family-sized homes.”

It is also running a paper-based petition for those who don’t have access to the internet. This can be printed off and posted to them by Friday 7 May (to 130 Wood Lane, Osterley, TW7 5EQ).

The association is also looking for volunteers who would knock on some doors locally to get more signatures. If you are willing to help you can email info@owgra.org.uk.

OWGRA is sending letters listing its concerns and objections to the Mayor of London and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, and is seeking legal advice to see what other avenues are available to challenge this decision.

It has also written a 7-page letter of complaint to the Chief Executive of Hounslow Council about the format and management of the Planning Committee meeting of 8 April and the lead up to it. The association describes the response it received to this letter as unsatisfactory and says it will be responding again with further comments. A review of the planning meeting has raised further issues of concern and OWGRA has written another letter to the council about these matters.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.
