Council planning officers are recommending approval for a proposal to demolish the car wash at the Shell petrol station at Twickenham Road in Isleworth and replace it with jet wash machines and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

There would be two covered jet wash bays and five stations to charge EVs at the rear of the forecourt.

Five residents lodged objections to the application at 403-405 Twickenham Road in the grounds of increased noise and disturbance, visual intrusion and an increase in vehicle movements at the site close to their properties.

The council’s planning team said that on the basis of a consultant’s noise assessment the noise from the jet wash machines would be no greater than existing background noise and the hours of operation could be set as a condition of the grant of planning permission. It concluded that the proposal offered no harm to neighbours’ living conditions or the character and appearance of surrounding area. The jet wash bays will be fully enclosed except for the opening to the forecourt and therefore it is believed that this will effectively control noise and water spray to the surroundings. The existing jet wash bay is not fully enclosed and the new designs are likely to result in less disturbance for neighbours.
