L&Q have taken over the Morrisons site planning to submit a revised planning application after a further consultation with the public. The site was sold for a little over £28 million.

Planning permission was granted in April 2017 for Essential Living's redevelopment of the site containing Morrisons and the associated car park into 221 PRS flats and supermarket which was subject to a complicated S106 agreement agreed in May 2018.

L&Q is preparing a Section73 application which will amend the existing application.

The proposal is to no longer have Private Rented Sector units but instead to have a mix of affordable and family sized homes on the site, whilst still providing a new supermarket.

The consultation will be to understand local views and priorities. This will be held at St Paul’s Church Hall on Wednesday 29th May from 4pm to 8.30pm.

Subject to feedback, the housing association then plans to submit an application this Summer, and start construction work in 2020.

Stuart Miller, Regional Managing Director, North Region at L&Q said: “We are pleased to announce L&Q’s involvement in this project. Our vision is that everyone has a quality home they can afford. We believe there is a real opportunity to improve upon the existing permission for the site, creating more affordable homes alongside an improved supermarket.”

“We understand that this is an important site for Brentford, and it’s important that we get this right both during and after construction. We look forward to working with our neighbours as we refine our ideas, creating a community focused development which will benefit new and existing residents.”

Hounslow Leader Cllr Steve Curran said: “We welcome the news that L&Q has acquired the site and is bringing it forward for development. L&Q has a proven track record of delivering high-quality social housing in the borough and we look forward to working with them to improve on the existing permission and deliver the homes that Hounslow desperately need. We welcome L&Q’s plans to provide more family homes and a new supermarket.”
