Councillor seeks help in naming new developments

Brentford councillor Matt Harmer has appealed to readers of www.brentfordTW8.com to help come up with names for two new developments in the area.

"Along with other local members, I've recently received a request for names for the new developments on the Wallis House site and the new Thames Valley University site, both on the A4.

"I'm not too impressed with the suggestions that we've had and I think the readers of the site can do better.

"For the Wallis House site, formerly home tto Beechams, the developer has suggested some rather retro names: Moderna, Skylon and International.

"The Library service have also come up with names: Edwin, Jubilee or Unity. For the new TVU site, the names suggested are even more bizarre: Sikkim, Lombok, Java or Sumatra. If anyone know the connection with Indonesia then I'd be interested to hear it. The Library team have obviously been inspired by the refuelling habits of the medical students soon to inhabit the building: Fuller; Smith, Turner; Beldon; Seagrave and Kings are their suggestions.

"So there you have it. We need suggestions and we need them as soon as possible. Please pass on any ideas - along with an explanation if necessary - to me at matt.harmer@hounslow.gov.uk. Ideally, they'll have a link with our history, as when the six Brentford Towers were named after engines at the nearby Steam Museum."
