Over eighty boys and girls aged 11-17 years joined the weekly Osterley parkrun to take part in a trial to see who would represent the borough in the Virgin Money Giving London Mini Marathon.

Hounslow’s Mini Marathon trials were on Saturday 10 March at Osterley Park and House with the top six in each age category qualifying. For the third year running, Hounslow has teamed up with parkrun, who host free 5km runs across the country on a weekly basis.

The qualifiers will now represent Hounslow on Sunday 22 April at the Virgin Money Giving London Mini Marathon. The event will see young competitors race the last 5km of the London Marathon course, finishing just minutes ahead of the elite athletes.

Councillor Samia Chaudhary, Cabinet Member for Green Policy gave out medals to the young people taking part in the trials. She said, 'It was a pleasure to see so many young runners taking part in the trials and really enjoying their sport. Hounslow is home to a large number of very talented young athletes and we wish today’s qualifiers every success as they go on to represent the borough at the Virgin Money Giving London Mini Marathon in April.

'A huge thank you must go out to all of the volunteers at Osterley parkrun and to the National Trust Osterley Park for hosting the event.'
