Following the success of Hanworth Park Junior parkrun, local volunteers are leading a new junior parkrun at the Osterley Park and House National Trust site each Sunday at 9am.

The parkrun at Osterley was launched by Councillor Corinna Smart, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Leisure, and Ruth Cadbury MP for Brentford and Isleworth and there are already over 16,000 people signed up to take part.

Eager runners in Hounslow have shown they can go the distance too, having completed a total of 81,230km, more than two complete laps around the earth.

The new junior parkrun is funded by Hounslow Council’s public health and leisure service, and sees youngsters encouraged to run at their own pace for 2km. It is suitable for ages four years to fourteen and is part of the Council’s commitment to support children across the borough to do their 60 minutes of physical activity per day.

Aine Hayes, a Hounslow resident and volunteer, is helping with the new junior parkrun, she said: “My children love the parkruns and being outside meeting other children. It’s great they can get active doing something they really enjoy.”

Local partners came to together recently to launch the new run at Osterley Park and House and were joined by local residents and representatives from Hounslow Council, National Trust, Fusion Lifestyle and parkrun.

Councillor Corinna Smart, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Leisure, Hounslow Council, said: “The beauty of parkrun is that it takes place the same time each week and it’s very sociable too.

“It is a chance for families to meet up with other families from other parts of the borough and enjoy exercising at the same time.

“We also owe a lot of the success to the wonderful volunteers whose dedication ensure these opportunities are out there.  With hopefully better weather on its way, it’s a great chance to get outdoors and active.”

Adult parkruns take place across Hounslow on Saturdays at 9am each week. Junior parkruns take place every Sunday at 9am.
