London-based microfinance charity, MicroLoan Foundation, is aiming to raise £30,000 this Christmas for impoverished women in Malawi and Zambia with support from a unique money-matching scheme by The Big Give.

Donations made to the charity on three dates in December via The Big Give website will be doubled at no extra cost to the donor. Money donated between 10:00am and 10:30am on the mornings of December 4, 5 and 6 will be matched as part of MicroLoan Foundation’s participation in The Big Give Christmas Challenge, enabling donors to double the impact of their support.

MicroLoan Foundation’s CEO and founder, Peter Ryan, said: “We’re delighted The Big Give has chosen to support us via their Christmas money-matching scheme for the third time. It means that one individual donation (as small as £5) can translate into multiple opportunities to change lives – because, for the 30,000 women we support, 150,000 more individuals are impacted by our work. Donating via The Big Give means potentially doubling the impact and reach of that initial donation, which is really powerful.

“There’s no easy solution for solving global poverty. But small loans, targeted correctly, and teamed with the correct support and training, can make a massive impact. We urgently need your help to support our critical work empowering women to help themselves out of poverty. Without your support, we could not continue our work”.

MicroLoan Foundation enables women to invest in income-generating activities and micro-businesses to support themselves and their dependants. With MicroLoan’s support, for example, Ileen made the journey from small-scale farmer, to burgeoning property developer. She used her loan to buy chickens to sell to market and now rears 70 at a time, providing essential income to expand her small mud hut and add electricity. With her savings, she plans to build another home to rent, providing additional income for the family.
