On the 18th January 2011, a fatal accident took place on the A4 Great West Road, near the junction with Syon Lane, Isleworth.

In response to this incident, Mary Macleod MP, Member of Parliament for Brentford & Isleworth, has written to Transport for London to ask them to carry out an urgent inspection of this section of road to assure the general public of its safety. Mary Macleod had received correspondence from worried constituents about the lack of traffic controls at the junction which meant that lorries are trying to dash through gaps across three lanes of high speed traffic heading into London.

Transport for London have assured Mary that along with colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service and the London Borough of Hounslow, representatives will shortly be examining if any part of the road design was at fault and if future modifications could be made to reduce the likelihood of a similar incident occurring. Transport for London claim that they will continue to monitor this section of the A4 and will implement remedial measures where proven collision trends are evident.

Mary said, “We must do all we can to prevent these terrible tragedies from being repeated and I am glad that the authorities seem to be making the appropriate efforts to ensure that this is the case. A young man lost his life and I would like to pass on my deepest condolences to his friends and family. I would like to praise the emergency services for their efforts in attending to the victims of this tragedy and hope that the other two gentlemen involved in the accident, make a speedy recovery.”
