Top A level Grades Double at Chiswick Community School
Students across Hounslow are celebrating today after achieving yet another set of record-breaking A-level results.
Nine of the borough’s schools saw an increase in the rate of A-level grades (A*-C) achieved from 2010. At the higher end of the grades, A*-B grades accounted for 50% of examination entries, a 2% increase on last year’s results.
Across the borough, 98 per cent of students obtained a pass grade in their A-levels, a result above the national average.
There were striking improvements in top grades at Cranford Community School, Heston Community School, Gumley House Convent and Chiswick Community School, where 9.9% of students attained an A* grade.
The majority of BTEC students across Hounslow were also offered their first choice at university. This includes excellent results with many double and triple distinctions at a number of schools in the borough.
Eight students have had their places confirmed at Oxford University and Cambridge University, with a host of others off to prestigious universities across the country.
Cllr Steve Curran, Hounslow Council’s cabinet member for education said:
“I’m extremely proud of Hounslow's students for their hard work and the sustained improvement we have achieved across our schools in the borough.
“It’s so pleasing to see so many happy faces, and with the hard work of the students, their teachers, parents and governors all paying off at this moment, they can move onto the next stage of their lives and I wish them every success for the future.”
Judith Pettersen, Director of Children’s Services and Lifelong Learning at Hounslow Council said:
“It’s fantastic to see yet another very strong set of results achieved in the borough.
“We all know the national picture for further education is ultra-competitive at the current time, but by improving upon last year’s results the borough’s students have given themselves the best possible chance for success.”
