Victoria George will stand for Brentford Ward in the local council elections in May as a Green Party candidate.  With her background in management and her roots in the community, Victoria will fight for a safer, greener, cleaner ward. This is a crucial time for the council to take a stronger stand on Heathrow, and she is passionately committed to fighting the third runway.  Victoria will also push for a ban on night-time flights.

Victoria George

Victoria has lived in Brentford for twenty years. Now retired, her background is in NHS management where she specialised in community health education and policy and also worked at a major London hospital overseeing patient complaints and improving the quality of services. Later in her career she worked at Brentford School for Girls as a mentor to young people with emotional and behavioural barriers to learning.  She is on the committee of BASH, the Brentford-based campaign against the Third Runway at Heathrow, and she is involved with local campaigns to tackle air pollution and make streets safer.

Victoria identifies strongly with Brentford.  She takes a close interest in the building development and planning for the area, and regularly writes responses to council planning consultations on behalf of Hounslow Green Party.  She acknowledges the need for change, including more housing, but wants the ward to retain its character. She loves living in Brentford because of the mix of people, and is determined that new developments and ever-rising rents do not squeeze out young people, older people and those on lower incomes.

She also believes that our amazing green spaces could be serving residents far better and will fight any cutbacks.

In this era of government cuts to education, social care and the NHS, Victoria wants to see the whole community engaged in making changes and putting pressure on the authorities to improve the Brentford we are all so fond of, but often so frustrated by too!

London’s emerging environmental strategy will look to the boroughs to make major improvements. Victoria believes there is no time to lose:   real progress on our local environment needs to happen right now and she wants to play a big part in that progress.
