Brentford School was very fortunate to host a visit from Cathy Cassidy on Thursday 7th March. Cathy came to talk to our girls about her latest novel “Summers Dream” and what inspired her to write the “Chocolate Box” series.

She spoke about her favourite school subject, daydreaming, and how that turned into a successful writing career.

Cathy was born in Coventry and now lives in North West England. She started writing at the age of 8 but that story was never published. Cathy trained as an illustrator but worked for a variety of teenage magazines before embarking on successful writing career.

The “Chocolate Box” series conveys the lives of five girls who were joined together as a step-family. Each book tells the story of one of the sisters and the next instalment “ Coco Caramel” is due out in June this year. For World Book Day 2013, Cathy wrote another book in the Chocolate Box Girls Series called "Bittersweet" which comes from Shay Fletcher's point of view!

The girls very much enjoyed the event, especially as Waterstones were also there with Cathy’s books for sale. Students used their World Book day tokens towards their purchase.

Cathy was able to stay after school finished. She signed copies of her books and spoke to the girls about a competition to find an actress to play Coco in her TV series.

Good luck to the girls!
