An alert neighbour called the Fire Brigade to a shop in Odeon Parade on London Road in Isleworth before 3am on Sunday.

The neighbour heard popping sounds and looking out saw smoke and fire from the building.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to the fire from Heston, Chiswick, Feltham and Twickenham fire stations.

Nineteen people were evacuated from the flats above the shop. Damage was done to part of the ground floor with some going up three floors to the roof.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and was under control by 5am.

Station Manager Jason Jones said: “Fire crews worked hard to prevent fire spreading further. Thankfully there were no injuries.”
